Storyline Elements
- The hook
- Players sit in the Pulsing Phaser, then a Miner stumbles in, sitting with them as if he was drunk. He brabbles to them about something he hid, then they realize he was bleeding out and dies.
- Isabel is stripping the miner’s ship that found the crystal, she asks the players to help and at some point they find the coordinates to an asteroid somewhere in the belt, this is where the Leerenstein was hidden, before the King Gesar arrived.
- The hunt for the crystal
- Gathering information
- Raiding the Concordia Shipyards Wrecks
- Hunting down the OEG King Gesar
- Finding out about the crystal’s secret
- When light hits it, it doesn’t just sparkle; it creates a specific interference pattern. Instead of a rainbow, it projects a faint, coherent red beam or grid, suggesting it is designed to be read by a laser (optical storage).
- If they clean the gem perfectly, they find a microscopic laser-etching on the girdle of the “diamond.” It’s not a serial number, but a simple, sleek Spiral symbol (The Danube Iconography). A History or Bureaucracy check identifies this not as a jewelry brand, but the logo of a defunct, high-security division of Danube Research Corp.
- If you have a Psychic PC, touching the stone is overwhelming. They don’t feel “greed” (like a normal gem would carry from prospectors); they feel clinical detachment and terror. They might hear a scientist’s voice in their head: “Subject 14 unstable. Detonation imminent. Seal the vault.”
- If they interrogate an OEG agent (like Artem Rieman), he doesn’t want the gem for money. He’s terrified of it. He might slip up and say: “You don’t know what that is. It’s not a diamond, it’s a trigger. If the UPN finds out what’s in that vault, they’ll glass the whole system again to bury it.”
- going to Lucido Prime
- Going around the quarantine zone
- unlocking the vault
Background
The Leerenstein looks like a perfectly natural grown crystal. Though it’s structure actually encodes a decryption algorithm which would open a vault on Lucido Prime. Inside the vault are the remnants of a UPIA funded research program by Danube Research Corp. to turn humans into walking bombs through biological research, which were supposed to be used in the Confederacy of Terran Gates. PROJECT: TUNGUSKA or PROJECT: MIRNY
The crystal was hidden in an asteroid shortly after the attack on the Planet, to prevent the secret and the research from falling into OEG hands. Where it was later discovered by mining prospectors
