Operational History
The Xammep was Kobashi Shipyards’ direct response to the rising piracy across fringe and contested space following the Second Gate War. While Kobashi had previously focused on civilian logistics, extensive lobbying and persuasion landed the company the grants to develop its own civilian armed spacecraft in partnership with SecCom Co.. The design philosophy was simple: a military-grade escort that could be maintained by a civilian-grade crew. The class saw its combat debut protecting Steelhead Mining Co. convoys from Imperial remnants near the Serengeti Line. Its performance was particularily useful for SecCom, as the vessel’s low maintenance costs compared to heavier military surplus granted sector command centers better efficiency and flexibility. SecCom became the primary operator of the class outside of the UPN.
