Ship: Marilaika STO Shuttle
Class Overview
| Attribute | Description |
|---|---|
| Class | Freighter |
| Role | Surface-To-Orbit Shuttle |
| Manufacturer | Perevozchik Heavy Industries |
The Marilaika class STO Shuttle is widely used in well established ports around the galaxy to ferry cargo either from surface installations to orbital ports, or between orbital installattions of the same planet. Rarely it is used for interplanetary flights due to its slower engines and mediocre life-support systems.

Operational History
Variants of the Marilaika are in use for the better part of the last century. There are two distinct variants. one with around half the cargo capacity and length, the other with slightly double. Each of the variant have bulk and liquid fittings available from stock as plug-ins. It was Perevozchik’s first and only venture into out-of-atmosphere craft, which is their usual expertise.
Typical Missions
| Mission Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Orbital Logistics Lift | Ferrying raw, refined materials from a surface processing plant directly up to an orbital shipyard’s construction gantries. |
| Atmospheric Relocation | Transporting oversized planetary equipment—such as mining rigs or terraforming engines—from one continent to another via a sub-orbital hop. |
Story Hooks
- The Decaying Orbit: A heavily loaded Marilaika has suffered complete engine failure and is slowly dipping into the upper atmosphere. The players are hired by the corporate owners to salvage the cargo—which is highly volatile—before the ship burns up on reentry.
- The Smuggler’s Gap: Because the Marilaika stores its TEU containers externally on a massive grid, clever smugglers often arrange the outer layer of containers to create a hollow cavity in the center of the stack. The players need to infiltrate a docked Marilaika to find a fugitive hiding in this artificial steel cave.
Additional Details
- Deck 1: Command (Fore)
- Bridge: A wide, utilitarian control room with excellent downward visibility for surface landings.
- Crew Quarters: Cramped, hot-bunking style rooms. Life support is minimal, as trips rarely exceed 48 hours.
- Deck 2: Flatbed (Mid-ship)
- Cargo Grid: An exposed, magnetized exterior deck. Requires EVA suits to traverse while in orbit.
- Deck 3: Engineering (Aft)
- Engine Block: A massive, heavily shielded compartment housing the three “Trawler” engines, optimized for pushing immense weight out of a gravity well.
