| Role | Patrol/Policing |
| Manufacturer | Kobashi Shipyards |
A civilian-grade patrol variant of the military’s robust Dumah Guided Missile Cruiser spaceframe, the Korbach class is the workhorse of the Unified Planets Coast Guard and Customs Branches. Designed for long-duration patrols in settled systems, it trades the Dumah’s missile capability for increased cargo capacity, enhanced crew facilities, and specialized law enforcement equipment.

Operational History
The Korbach class was built upon the success of the Dumah Frigate Spaceframe. Rising demand for independently operable ships in the Unified Planets Coast Guard and Customs Branches spurred Kobashi Shipyard engineers to iterate on the robust spaceframe of the navy ship to introduce a high-performing patrol boat that leans more into the civilian sector of law enforcement. By stripping out the Dumah’s highly classified and expensive SIGINT and EWACS suites, Kobashi was able to mass-produce a cheaper, more easily maintained vessel. The freed-up internal space was repurposed for expanded cargo holds for seized goods, a dedicated brig for detainees, and more comfortable crew quarters suitable for months-long patrols. The Korbach quickly became a ubiquitous sight along major trade lanes.
Typical Missions
| Mission Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Customs Inspection | Boarding and scanning commercial freighters for contraband in high-traffic systems. |
| Anti-Piracy Patrol | Patrolling fringe systems to deter, engage, and apprehend pirate vessels. |
| Search and Rescue | Responding to distress calls, providing medical aid, and towing disabled ships. |
| Blockade Enforcement | Maintaining a security cordon around quarantined planets or contested stations. |
Story Hooks
- The Inside Job: A Korbach-class frigate is implicated in a smuggling ring, with its crew using their authority to bypass customs checks for a powerful syndicate. The players are hired to investigate the crew undercover or are the crew of a rival ship tasked with catching them in the act.
- Prisoner Transfer: The players’ ship is hired to assist a Korbach frigate in transporting a high-value pirate lord to a maximum-security prison. The pirate’s former fleet will stop at nothing to retrieve their leader, turning a simple escort mission into a running battle.
Additional Details
While lacking the prestige of its naval-issue sibling, the Korbach is respected by civilian captains and feared by smugglers and pirates. Its crews are typically a mix of veteran Coast Guard officers and fresh-faced recruits. The ship is known for being remarkably durable and easy to repair, with many components being interchangeable with those on common civilian freighters. Common modifications include reinforcing the hull for asteroid field navigation or converting a section of the cargo bay into an expanded med-bay for dedicated search-and-rescue operations. Internally, the ship feels less like a warship and more like a police precinct, with functional, utilitarian corridors connecting the bridge, crew quarters, and the secure brig section.
